Forschungsinteressen

Tektonische Vorgänge, die das Aussehen unserer Erde fortwährend modifizieren, sind herausragende Landschaftsgärtner. Meine Forschungsinteressen gelten vorrangig der Tektonik und damit verbundener sedimentärer, magmatischer, metamorpher, aber auch geomorphologischer Vorgänge entlang konvergierender Plattenränder. Um die dort auftretende Verformung sowie ihre Rolle bei der Gebirgsbildung zu verstehen, untersuche ich geologische Verwerfungen und Scherzonen hinsichtlich ihrer Geometrie und Kinematik über mehrere räumliche Größenordnungen hinweg und in sämtlichen Krustenniveaus. Detaillierte Geländearbeit, idealerweise vervollständigt durch geologische Kartierung, bilden unerlässliche Grundlagen meiner Projekte. Daneben vertraue ich auf geophysikalische Daten zur Abbildung des tieferen Untergrunds, sowie auf verschiedene geochronologische Ansätze zur zeitlichen Erfassung geologischer Vorgänge.

Seit 2020:

Identifying fossil fault activity along the eastern Periadriatic Fault system by means of combined OSL- and ESR-dating of fault gouges (NE Italy, S Austria and N Slovenia). Collaborative project with Sumiko Tsukamoto (LIAG Hannover), sub-project within the 2nd phase of SPP 2017 "Mountain Building in Four Dimensions".

Mountain building in the Eastern and Southern Alps - large earthquakes and active faults. Collaborative project with Christoph Grützner and Klaus Reicherter (RWTH Aachen), sub-project within the 2nd phase of SPP 2017 "Mountain Building in Four Dimensions".

The metamorphic Yuli Belt in Taiwan - Key to the tectonics of arc-continent collision and high-pressure rock exhumation (collaborative project with Niko Froitzheim (Bonn) and Chin-Ho Tsai (Donghua University Taiwan), jointly funded by DFG and MoST.

Earth surface response to Quaternary faulting and shallow crustal structure in the eastern Adria-Alpine collision zone and the Friulian plain, collaborator with Christoph Grützner. Sub-project within SPP 2017 "Mountain Building in Four Dimensions".
