Research interests

I study crustal deformation and past earthquakes using geophysical, geological, and remote sensing techniques with a focus on paleoseismology and tectonic geomorphology. My study areas comprised extensional settings like Germany, USA, Spain, Peru, and Greece, and areas of active shortening and strike-slip tectonics in Central Asia and the Alps. I am also interested in tsunami studies, secondary earthquake effects, and archaeogeophysics. Currently I am investigating the Caribbean-North American plate boundary in Guatemala in the framework of my own DFG projectExternal link. I blog about paleoseismology and active tectonics at www.paleoseismicity.orgExternal link.
